The City Library was the place for this evenings preview lecture on the upcoming opera ‘Regina’ by Marc Blitzstein. He gave a very entertaining presentation on the plot and also told about the music and themes. Set in the South, he describes the role of Regina and her personality. It is sure to be a enjoyable evening. He also had 4 singers perform selections from Regina to help tell the story. The one I enjoyed the most was the ‘Rain Quartet’.
Watts was a former associate conductor of the Utah Symphony and conducted numerous operas at Kingsbury Hall. He has a delightful way of describing musical styles and textures. His final note about the play was a quote by Paul Harvey, “Don’t worry, nothing is going to turn out right.”
